Gospel means good news. The fact that Jesus came to save humanity from their sins amazes me and baffles me.
Here’s the breakdown. God’s original design was to have man and God in perfect fellowship. No barriers. No sin. In order for this design, however, to play out, there was a hierarchical understanding that God was God and we were not. Within this fellowship, we would be perfectly submitted to the Father and freely enjoy all the benefits of being children of the Most High as well as His presence in the purest of forms.
There is a little twist to the story: free will. An omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent God, who has every right to assert His dominance and demand the praises of His people, in love, sets a precedence of whole-hearted devotion and submission to Him, that people can choose to enter into or not. What juxtaposition. What love. Enter sin. Because humanity now has a choice, we decided that sin was better than God. Insert in anything in direct opposition to God. Lying. Unforgiveness. Slander. Jealousy. I mean the list goes on.
Enter redemption. Redemption has a name. Its name is Jesus. Jesus is the payment for our sin. He is the Only Way, The Truth, and The Life (John 14:6). Most people complain that there is only one way to the Father. The fact that there even is a way is good news. The Gospel really is good news.
How does the Gospel impact our lives once we live submitted to His Lordship? Every area of our lives should be permeated by Gospel influence. We should view exercise, not as vain attempts to achieve worldy standards, but because our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). We should choose to sit with the person who has no friends because whatever we do for them, we do for Christ (Matthew 25:40). I have not always viewed life through this lens, but praise God this type of vision is available to all who commit their lives to Him. Put on some Gospel lenses today and watch as everything in life comes under divine perspective!!
