A strange, beautiful mystery. A covenant to not be regarded lightly. A picture of Christ faithfully loving His bride, the Church. Fun, yet so serious. Generations are impacted by this union. The world gets a glimpse of the kind of love that drove Christ to joyfully go towards the cross. For the joy set before Him. Yet, unnatural, in a way. It goes against selfish desires. I wonder if I am cut out for it. I am a selfish, wretched sinner. The issue is not finding someone to be loved by, but being willing to love, at all times, when it is inconvenient, when they really deserve an eye roll, when silence sounds better than restoration. In the mean time, there are aspects of walking with Christ and others in this season that give me the chance to practice this sort of sacrificial love. The Bible paints so many vivid examples, so may the meditation of these stories, not just be a pleasing aroma to Christ, but a chance to turn meditation into action. Being a doer of Scripture is ultimately where it’s at.
